The Tuesday

For the next couple of weeks I have my entire Tuesday free. It allows me to catch up with people, do bits of shopping, etc. Or, as is the case today, sit at home, watch DVDs and try to kick this little flu thing I've got.

One thing about working for yourself, which in my case generally meant spending more time by myself than with other people, is that you're not prone to the same bugs that fly around the general populace.

One thing I expected but didn't relish about returning to office work was the likelihood of catching these bugs. And sure enough, after two weeks, I've been hit. Sure it could have come from the office, or the students, or even a friend or two. What it does do is give me a good excuse to do next to nothing today and complain to guys. Cos I know you really care.

Oh, that photo was taken in northern Southland (I think), many months ago, and has absolutely nothing to do with anything else.

The Tasman

I've said it before, and I'm bound to say it again, but this internet thing is fabulous. I would never have thought of using it as part of a university course (except maybe for web design or research), but everyone doing the papers I'm tutoring requires a Flickr page onto which they upload preliminary project images for us to assess. It's kinda fun, if a little more time consuming than I'd like - but then blogging is more time consuming than I'd like and no one's paying me for this. Anyway I just spent a couple of hours telling people how bad/great/indifferent they are.

This is my day off, or at least my day to work for myself. So, naturally, I spend some of it on my students (I hope they appreciate it). But I did fit in a lunch with Sharyn so it wasn't all bad. And now, rather than writing the three reviews I'm working on, or getting dinner, I'm wasting time in cyberland telling a whole bunch of strangers rubbish they don't want, or need, to know.

So here's a picture.

It was an idea I had late last year (maybe early this year). But after trying it out I have a feeling it just won't work. It's kinda interesting but there's not enough going on to persist with it.

Here's the positive though.

Much better.

And the same spot shot in 2001.

The Excuses

One of the problems with having a 'real' job - besides having to get up earlier than I'm used to - is that I don't have time at computers to regularly continue my online excursions.

For the last couple of years, regardless of what I was doing, I've always tried to get off the computer by 7pm at the latest. Have some pretence of regular working hours.

Now though, being out of the office four days a week means having to come home and check emails, blog, etc in the evening. Call me undedicated, but I'm not that keen on the idea.

So you're going to have to put up with a few weeks of randomness here until things fall into some kind of routine.

It doesn't help that on my day off I took off to the Wairarapa to photograph for an upcoming show.

This is one of the better shots I got, and while I'm not certain its related to what I'm photographing, it seems a bit too coincidental not to be.

I am managing, I think, to continue my daily postings on the old fellas. Shortly I'm off to flickr to pass judgement on a bunch of my students. And if this rain stops, I'll even attempt hanging some washing on the line.

What an exciting Saturday.

The Following

For some reason I wasn't happy with these. So I went back the following evening. And took these.

Ooohh look, camera shadow. Cool.

These are kinda better I guess - 100% conversion rate instead of yesterdays 40%. That's kinda better.

The Wharf

For quite some time these have been sitting in my 'to blog' folder waiting for their moment of glory.

I figure now is as good a time as any to reveal them to an adoring public. (I think I was waiting for a very specific time, but I have no recollection of when or what that time is/was.)

I have posted a similar shot previously - way back in the very early days of this blog thing. And then some more a while back (with oddly similar text to this one - go figure).

In case you hadn't guessed these standards were at Petone Wharf.

The Picnic

There's probably a story to tell here. But I can't be bothered.
